Ford to Recall Over 125,000 Escape, Lincoln Corsair and Maverick Vehicles Over Fire Risk

By Sabela Ojea

Ford Motor is recalling 125,322 vehicles from three different models for a risk of fire.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Tuesday that the automaker's 2020-2023 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair vehicles sports utility cars, as well as its 2022-2023 Ford Maverick trucks, have engines that could fail prematurely and result in under-hood fires or smoke.

Nearly 70% of the recall applies to Ford's 2020-2023 Escape vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Ford advises customers to safely park and shut off the engine as quickly as possible if they hear unexpected engine noises, lose power or see or smell smoke," the NHTSA said.

Ford will start notifying owners about the recall on June 12. A remedy is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2023.

Ford's latest recall comes less than a week after the NHTSA said the company was recalling over 140,000 Lincoln MKC crossover vehicles because the engine compartment could catch fire while parked or driving.
